November is Care Leavers’ Month
Every one of us has a role in supporting children in care and care-experienced young people. Watch the Corporate Parenting Board’s powerful video and see what corporate parenting truly means—creating real relationships, offering support and championing aspirations.
Rachel Harrisson, Assistant Director for Specialist Children’s Services at Derbyshire County Council, writes:
As this month is Care Experienced Young People’s Month, it is a timely reminder of the vital role we all play in supporting our children in care and care-experienced young people.
The Corporate Parenting Board has produced a powerful video that captures what corporate parenting truly means for us as an organisation. It reminds us that every employee, regardless of role, shares responsibility for ensuring our children in care and care-experienced young people have the same opportunities, love, and support that any good parent would want for their child.
This is not just a statutory duty – it is a moral commitment to help our young people thrive. The video highlights the importance of creating genuine relationships, offering practical support, and championing their aspirations.

What we are asking from you:
- Please protect time in your upcoming team meetings for practitioners to watch the video together.
- Encourage discussion on how, in their individual roles, colleagues can influence and support corporate parenting.
- Capture and share ideas that can make a real difference in practice.
Every conversation matters. Every action counts. By embedding corporate parenting into our daily work, we can collectively ensure that our children and young people feel valued and supported.
Thank you for prioritising this important work and for your continued commitment to improving outcomes for those who need us most.
