Step Into Work, a new six-week virtual programme from Joined Up Careers Derbyshire, links directly to employment opportunities with Home First, Derby City Council’s frontline domiciliary care service. 

The programme will offer guaranteed interviews for Support Worker vacancies at Band 3 to candidates who successfully complete the programme and attain a level 2 qualification. Step Into Work offers accredited core qualifications and training webinars in key areas of knowledge for work in health and social care, training and support in employability skills and preparation for interview. Following the programme, candidates can be interviewed by Home First, all of whom will be capable of securing employment. 

Programme and duration

Step Into Work programme candidates are to complete both level 1 and 2 qualifications in Introduction to Working in Adult Health and Social Care, or level 2 if possessing a pre-existing qualification or assessed as being capable of commencing study at level 2. 

Guaranteed interviews with Home First will be week commencing 28 March 2022 on successful completion of the course.

Proposed start date and cohort size

Aiming for about 30 candidates, start date 14 February 2022. Dedicated tutor support will be provided to each candidate during the courses with additional support and guidance available throughout the programme from Joined Up Careers.

Employment opportunities upon completion

Minimum of 20 frontline Support Worker vacancies (part-time and full-time) with Home First (Derby City Council) – more details on posts provided – with guaranteed interviews for all candidates who successfully complete the programme. All posts to cover the Derby City area and candidates must have access to their own transport.

Eligibility

Applicants should be aged 19-plus, some informal care experience preferred but not essential. Domiciliary care role so must have driving licence/access to transport.

Candidates will need to possess a minimum entry level 3 in both Maths and English (minimum banding of 60%) and be capable of working towards level 1 on commencement of programme.

Majority of course is conducted using online e-learning and attendance on virtual webinars using MS Teams; therefore candidates need to have either laptop or tablet, smart phone is not suitable

Individuals can contact Brian directly for further information if required. Deadline for referrals to Brian by Wednesday 2 February 2022.

Candidates will have an informal screening interview with Joined Up Careers prior to course start and will undertake a functionals skills assessment with the training provider.

Employer will do any future DBS checks. Mileage allowance and support for ongoing training and career development will be offered to each successful candidate.
